Maggie graduated from the University of Missouri in 2014 with her undergraduate degree in Psychology and minors in Social Justice, French, and Multicultural Studies. Maggie then graduated from Stephens College in 2018 with a Master’s degree in Counseling. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Missouri and completing her supervision to become a Registered Play Therapist under Kate Weir at Kindred Collective! 

Maggie has worked with children and families in a variety of different settings. During college, Maggie completed research in a Child Psychology Lab, with a focus on childhood anxiety and depression. Maggie has also worked with the Jumpstart program, working with preschool aged children from low-income backgrounds to improve literacy skills. Leading into work with the Moving Ahead Youth Program through the Youth Community Coalition. Here, Maggie worked as a tutor for children and focused on encouraging healthy choices and promoting education to help prevent substance abuse in children. During her graduate work, Maggie worked with children and adults, planning several groups that focused on mindfulness/ yoga, anxiety, and a foster care support group. Maggie also has experience helping families navigate the college admissions process and working through career exploration. 

Currently, Maggie is the owner of Maggie Gonzales Counseling, LLC, practicing privately at Kindred Collective since 2018. Maggie provides individual therapy for children, teens, and adults. She has a background in anxiety, depression, trauma, divorce/separations, ADHD, behavioral issues, self-esteem, and adjusting to changing life events.

 

In her work with children, Maggie loves to incorporate play techniques to help children express themselves and heal. In conjunction, she also works with parents and families to find ways of supporting their children outside of the therapy room. Collaborating with parents to help them find approaches that are focused on connecting rather than simply correcting. She focuses on solutions that not only feel good to parents but allow them to adapt and build their children into healthy, happy, and successful humans!

 

She is person-centered in her work and incorporates mindfulness and meditation into her counseling. Maggie supports a holistic approach to counseling, looking at multiple factors that may be contributing to the present situation. Maggie is trained in Reiki energy healing.

 

Outside of counseling, Maggie values time spent with her husband and daughter. In her spare time, she enjoys yoga, keeping active outdoors, and spending time with family and friends. Maggie loves to travel and experience different cultures. Animals are an essential part of her life! 

 

Maggie does not accept insurance currently but works on a sliding scale for payment. 

For play therapy certification, Maggie works under the supervision of Kate Weir, EdS, LPC-S, RPT-S, Missouri License #2011039650.
