Practicum Students & Interns

Shannon Beck
Intern

Shannon grew up in Rolla, Missouri and has called Columbia home for the past decade. She initially pursued journalism and communications as an academic and career path before returning to obtain a B.S. in Psychology from Missouri State University in 2022.

Shannon is now in her third year in the Stephen's College Clinical Mental Health Counseling program as well as the Dance/Movement Therapy Master's Certificate program at Antioch University New England. She first began dancing at age four, and, by high school, found the power in processing emotions through expressive movement. Shannon is passionate about the mind-body connection and is excited to offer this body-centered, creative arts modality to clients in mid-Missouri.

She provides a collaborative therapeutic experience and believes in using a combination of bottom-up and top-down processing to help clients arrive at new insights and self-understanding to facilitate growth and wellness. Her approach is holistic, incorporating the body and mind and the interplay between the two.

Shannon hopes to work with clients across the lifespan.

Megan Rene McBride
Intern

Megan is in the final year of her Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at Stephens College and is excited to join Kindred Collective as an intern.
Megan chose to become a counselor because she loves to motivate others to grow and thrive. She believes that when individuals are fully supported, they are equipped to be empowered agents in their own lives and can best contribute to the health and well-being of others. Her work with Veteran and local communities inspired her interest in mental health and generational healing.
Megan uses a holistic, eclectic approach to help children and families better understand themselves and expand their emotional toolkits. She brings a practical and accessible person-centered orientation to her practice and finds meaning in broader frameworks of existential and feminist theory. She provides individual therapy for children, teens, and young adults. Upon graduation, she plans to become a Registered Play Therapist.
Megan earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Missouri and found a home in Columbia. In her free time, Megan loves to spend as much time as possible outside and with family. Most weekends, you can find her stretching out with some yoga or practicing her handstands!
