About Colleen
I have a passion for family communication. Over the last 12 years, I have devoted my career to family relationships. I am currently an associate professor at the University of Missouri in Columbia. I'm a trained family educator through the Gottman Institute and the founder and owner of Adopting Communication, LLC, a family communication education organization that serves to provide families with communication strategies to promote cooperation and connection.
I specialize in adoptive families. As an adoptive mother, researcher, and advocate, I have a deep knowledge about the communication practices that promote belonging and identity development in adoptive families.
I am passionate about translating academic research into practical solutions for families. As a family educator, I offer group workshops on family communication. I also offer individualized family education, meeting with families in a private setting to provide targeted communication strategies and exercises to address specific behavioral issues and to promote strong families. I am currently accepting clients for family education.
